Going to Africa!

January 12, 2010

This summer I have an amazing opportunity to be a part of a team traveling to South Africa & Uganda. Over the course of about a month (June 27-July 24) we will be visiting several communities to encourage the people, and bring assistance where it is needed.

While in South Africa the team will be involved in numerous outreaches at High Schools and indigenous communities. We  will also visit Johannesburg during the World Cup where many people from around the world will be gathered.

In Uganda the team will be going to the war ravaged northern region near the Sudan border to assist with the ongoing work of bringing care and hope to many who have been displaced by war and have been living in camps for the last 20 years. It is the team’s long-term goal to build a school and community center in the largest of the camps.

Uganda has known civil war which has caused mistrust, fear, injustice and deep hurt to the soul of this nation. The Ugandans have a great lack of sufficient medical aid. My team will be working with local leaders to bring God’s hope, restoration and healing to the communities we visit.

The biggest hurdle ahead of me will be  the large price tag. This trip has a total cost of around $4,000 per person, which includes airfare, lodging, meals and emergency needs. In the months leading up to the trip I have significant plans for fundraising in order to reach the amount necessary. All of the money is due by April 2010 in order to purchase all of the supplies and travel tickets in advance. If you would like more information on how you can assist me in this trip, please visit the support page.

I am so excited to be involved with this! I cannot wait to go! I will be using this blog to document the preparations leading up to the trip as well as the trip itself. If you’re interested in learning more about the trip, check back here often as well as visiting the Hope For Humanity -Uganda website.
